CSS3 Web

In this assignment we were to create a web page using Css3 stuff. At least four elements and a header of some sort.

I used Dreamweaver to make a web page with a header and content box and put in Css3 boxes and a shadow. I did not do a designed page and that would be nice to do with code generators. I then did a screen capture to put on my blog.

I can see where this would be so great to use in designing a web page, however, it would take a little getting back to making web pages to get more familar with it. I think it should definitly be part of class 210.

3-D Menu Transition

In this assignment we were to make a transition animation in AfterEffects that include 2 menus and 2 transition animations between those 2 menus. We were to make a DVD and place in blog.

I used PS to make the 2 menus and AfterEffects to make the 2 animations. Then combined the animation and used Encore to create the DVD.

This was a very tedious project for 5 seconds of show. It was at a bad time for me as my attention was on my moms funeral, preparations and out-of-town visitors. I had to go back many times and redo things and it became frusterating.  I get the concept and I think it would be fun to not be under a time restraint in order to play more with the animation but as it is, I still had a problem finding why my return button showed up as "extras" when it was not. I think it had something to do with my linking but, it is what it is, and I will take what I can.

Web Template Assignment

In this assignment we were to find a template and download it from the internet. I downloaded a template and then changed the main header to include a slogan and an image of myself. I then deleted a few div's and rearranged the nav titles. I filled in with information I have been reading about. I liked using a template, however, I like doing my own page from scratch and just designing it the way I like and not worring about deleting something on the template. But with that said I can see how time saving this would be for clients in a hurry or that do not want some specific theme.

Thematic Text Project

This is my Interactive Flash Thematic Text Project
This project was done in PS and in Flash. I learned to use a mask to create a texture for some words and then learn a new way to upload to a blog. I liked this project and thought it was very interesting. I had a little problem with the upload to the web but somehow it just came up on the second try. I just don't know how that happened but I was happy to see it show up in my blog and so I am not going to mess with it.

Assignment 14 Gallopin Gertie

In this assignment we were to create a logo for the Gallopin' Gertie Model A Car Club based on information provided from them. We also needed to create an email newsletter for the car club with 3 photos.

I didn't want to use the programs to draw a logo because I just couldnt get detailed. So I hand drew both images, scanned them into PS and then into Illustrator.  Then used Dreamweaver to make a newletter. I used the logo and two pictures of my mom, who was an antique car enthusist. My Dad and her restored a 1940 Plymouth and went to many car club meets in with my aunt and uncle decked out in the clothing from the year of their cars.

I enjoyed making the logo but not so much the newletter, it was tedious. I hope the car club enjoys my drawing of the Model A.

Assignment 13 Animated Shapes

This is my Assignment 13, Animated Shapes in AfterEffects.  Using vector shapes, animated them and make them into an avi/movie file.

I used an number of different shapes, animated them, copied them, added borders, dashes, etc., and arranged in a format that would show up a face at the end.

This was a good learning experience on what Affer Effects can do. I have not worked much with this program, only as directed in some assignments.  Would like to know my way around it a bit better. Maybe down the road.

Assignment #12 Online Photo Galleria

In this assignment we were to create an online Photo Gallery with a banner and branding, and our own photos.

I picked pictures and optimized them for the web, worked a little on an old banner I had used in my Web Design class and use the Zip Folder provided  complete this project in Dreamweaver.

I had a bit of a hard time remembering all that I was suppose to know about creating web pages but it came back to a degree. Still had a hard time getting it to the web page when finished. I like the effect and have been thinking about using this format to give a speech.

Assignment #11 3-D Coat

In this assignment we were to create a 3-D Still Life using 3D Coat. My portable hard drive crashed and I lost my assignments from my 3-D class and my model I had previously made in 3-D Coat.

Annoyed, I just used a model from the 3D Coat program, even though we were not suppose to.  Just not enough time to recreate what was lost.

I really like 3D Coat, even from my 3-D Class.  It was fairly easy to work with and I would have liked to make a new model but I just did not have time.

Assignment #10 3-D PopUp

In this assignment we were to create a 3-D Pop-Up Photo Gallery with 8-10 images of our own that runs 20-30 seconds.

I used PS to gather all my photos and create a background and save for web. Then they needed to be downloaded into AfterEffects and animated to pop up from a ground plane as a camera moved from side to side. We were to have lights and shadows but allowed not to since we did not go over in class. I couldnt get the lights to do what I wanted.  Then I downloaded to Premier Pro and added a title and end page along with music. .

This was the most frusterating assignment of all. I did everything at least 3 times and I just couldnt get it.  I liked my theme and the photos but at this point I still do not have the assignment uploaded.

Assignmnet 8 (cont) Brushes

Art Brush in Illustrator
Scatter Brush in Illustrator

These are the two brushes I created in Illustrator.

I used a more graphic type design with rectangles and circles.  These brushes though not more difficult to make, they took a bit of manipulation. I guess I will just have to get the hang of it by doing more.

I think you really have to have a design in mind before you make the brushes because they are a bit more work to manipulate than in PS.  I did not have the patience to work on what I really wanted.

Assignment #8 Brushes in Photoshop

In this assignment we were to create a mini brush set in both Photoshop and Illustrator.  The above are two of my brushes from PS.  I decorated one of my photos with a pinecone brush and the other I just decorated with a brush I made with a photo itself.

I used PS and a photo I had, and turned the photos to black and white and then adjusted the threshold. Then defined the brush and added to the brush library. I used the pinecone brush to feather around the photo of my daughter for a different effect.

This was an interesting project and I liked all the possiblities that learning to work with brushes brings.  I even used a brush to create one of the Assgn #9  SLAM designs.

Assignment 9 Folios

Folio for Design 1

Folio for Design 3

Folio for Design 2

Assignment 9, Student Literary Arts Magazine

In this assignment we were to create a cover for Pierce College's Student Literary Arts Magazine.  We were to create 2 designs and one Folio for each that would be used throughout the book.
In  the first design I used text as art and made a simple design only using white/red/black. I used Photoshop to design all of the covers.  I am submitting three even though the assignment said two, well, because we were told not to use body images and I did for one. I liked it!
I liked this project. I would have liked to have spent the time on one in order to perfect it more, but I think they all can be tweaked at a later date.  I wanted to relate to the magazine as it was a venue for art, painting, drawing, photography, digital design, and poetry, and that is why I like the one with the "body" in it.

This is my favorite because I feel it shows the actual feel of what it is to create art and design.

This design was created by using an brush in PS. Its amazing what you can do with brushes!

Assignment #4 Vinyl Cutting

Assignment #4 for Digital Design was to Cut Vinyl.  We were to make a design, text or logo in three colors.

I used Photoshop for the text and the Roland software program to download and cut the text out. I then used tape to transfer the cut out text unto background.

This was a fairly simple assignment as long as everything worked for you.  It will be interesting for bumper stickers and I think I will use this to create some stickers for my daughter who runs for lung cancer.

Concept Art (b)

This is assignment #7 in Digital Design 220. In this assignment we were to create two pieces of concept art in accordance to the character of story given. It could be of characters, landscape/buildings or spaceships. I chose to do two characters in the story.
I used Photoshop after hand sketching the characters and then scanning into the program. I made the background from a photo I took of tree bark. I also used the bamboo tablet for the majority of the coloring, shading and drawing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this project. I wish I had more time to perfect it and learn the art of shading and making it look more 3-D. This character took me less time to create than the first so I felt good that I was getting better.

Concept Art (a)

This is assignment #7 in Digital Design 220. In this assignment we were to create two pieces of concept art in accordance to the characters of story given.  It could be of characters, landscape/buildings or spaceships.  I chose to do two characters in the story.

I really learned to like the tablet alot. I had a hard time at first but it grew easier and faster as the drawing progressed. I wish I know how to do the shading with more expertise. I feel like this first character was done in baby steps and more cartoony in looks as I outlined the subject more.  I really liked this once I was done but as I started the second character I saw how much better I was getting. So, sadly this is not my favorite of the two.

Bamboo Tablet

This is Assignment #6 in Digital Design 220. Using a drawing tablet in connection with the computer. This was just a get acquainted exercise drawing with a pen to show hand drawn artwork.

I used my bamboo tablet and pen to draw this kitty in Illustrator and then I used the brush tool in Illustrator to color with a watercolor brush. It took a while to get the brush sizing, type, pressure figured out.  There are so many variations to try.

This was my first time drawing this way and it was a little difficult not looking down at what you were doing with your hand as you were drawing. It just takes a little getting used to but I thoughly enjoyed playing around with it. With a little practice I can see where one would get really good.

Creating Fonts-LowerCase, Numbers and Symbols

In the second part of the assignment for Creating Fonts we were to make the lower case letters, numbers and 4 symbols with the same Illustrator brush from the capital letter assignment.  The lower case letters are smaller and were a bit more difficult.

I used Adobe Ilustrator and the Font Creator to accomplish this part of the assignment.

While I like the font in general, this is a tedious job making each letter. I thought I was going to make another set of fonts but at the moment it is too time consuming. I will try to do this at another time and I am sure I will do a better job.

Creating Fonts

In this part of the assignment we were to create just the capital letters of the alphabet and in another lesson we will be making the lower case letters and symbols. I used a brush that I got on the Internet for Illustrator Brushes.

I also downloaded the Font Creator Program 4.1 in order to complete this assignment. I was trying to make a swirly type font that was a little more like script and I hope that it will come across well when it is completed.

In order to complete this assignment I needed to use Adobe Illustrator and create the brushes I used and the Font Creator.

I like this font, but I am going to try to create an Illustrator brush of my own and try my hand at another set of fonts that are not as script like, something more modern or organic.

Animated Photoshop Brush

This is my first assignment in Digital Design 220 animating a Photoshop Brush using Adobe Flash.  I hope to create a scene that looks somewhat realistic with some grass brushes.

The photo I used is of the stream on my property.  The stream has lots of moss and greenery around it so I am trying to add to it.  I used an internet site that has a variety of illustrator brushes and I downloaded a few grasses along with a couple of fish brushes and fairy/butterfly brushes to decorate the photo scene in separate layers in Photoshop.  I imported to Adobe Flash and animated the layers. I published the scene as a movie and placed in Youtube and then placed into this blog.

I enjoyed this assignment. The more I played around with it, the more I found new possibilities for great ideas. I may go back and make the fish jump out of the water for my portfolio.

  Biography of Kristine Barth

I am currently living 2 blocks from where I was born. I have lived in many places around the world, but I am right back where I started, Tacoma, Washington. I love the Pacific Northwest and love being near friends and family.

I was married twice, with the last ending 25 years of marriage with the loss of my spouse to lung cancer. I have a 17 year old daughter, who is in her senior year of High School and a running start student of Pierce College. We live in my mother's home and see to her care as she is 91 years young but housebound. Our home is on a beautiful 12 acre estate with my brother and my aunt. We have ponds and amazing wildlife to enjoy each day.

In the 70's, I was a student of Commercial Art. I married and moved to Los Angeles. I started a career in banking and after 25 years in the financial industry, I have returned to school to pursue a degree in Digital Design at Pierce College. With the advancement of the computer and technology, art has taken a new direction and I am working to catch up.
